Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Been reading a lot of comics lately and thanks to the digital age I’ve been catching up on a lot of runs that I’ve been meaning to read for a while. That being said, there are some things that I’ve discovered I both hate/love about comics now-a-days. I’ll list them for your reading pleasure.
1. Super people meet in space just to talk it out.
One of the first comics I can remember reading when I was a kid was a crossover between Superman and the Green Lantern. The premise of the whole story was that Supes and Hal were flying out in space talking about the recent events in their lives and stumbled upon some alien world in danger and helped them out, as a kid this struck me as very profound. Now, looking back it just feels lazy. I mean, couldn’t they just meet at a ball game like in Green Lantern Rebirth? Cool stuff still happens on Earth too, you know.
2. Everyone Dies, Everyone comes back, unless your Jean Grey, than you’re more perennial than taxes.
Remember when Superman dying was such a big deal. That’s the first thing I’d read if Captain America, Batman, Green Arrow, Any Flash, Aquaman, Jason Todd, Hal Jordan or… oh wait I did read that, never mind.
3. Everybody’s costume gets an update, and EVERYBODY has to comment about it.
Spiderman and Batman are a couple of characters that I think get a new look every couple of years, so at this point I’m used to it. But we all know that heroes like Daredevil, Superman, most of the X-Men, and hell probably Spiderman too are going to end up back in their ‘classic’ duds. No need to made make an aside during the middle of a book as a wink to the readers. We get it.
That’s it for now, I’m sure more will bug me/make me fall in love in the future.
