It was absolutely one of the most fun movies I ever worked on.

Go see it!

Like if your name is Francis, good chance you’re gonna be “Frank.” Pretty simple.

Sometimes nicknames take on such a tangled evolution however, you’re not even sure how and why you got one.

For instance one or two of my coworkers have been calling be “Bonesy” or just “Bones” for two years now. It’s so ingrained in my brain I even respond to it on conference calls. So when an out of town auditor asked me this morning why they call me “Bones” I literally had to think for a good minute…

For most of my life I’ve just been Jonesy. My niece calls me Uncle Jonesy, my friends space out when they have to think of my first name (in fact only my wife and mother really call me ‘Chris’), it’s just who I am.

At work, the name begin to change largely because “Jonesy” is hard to pick out because of the J sound. So over the years it was “Chris Jones, you out there, Jonesy?”

Since the hard B is easier to make out on the radio it changed to “you out there, Chris Bones?”

Then, when that was too long it changed to “hey, Jonesy Bonesy?l”

Then when we got a new simulator it became “hey Bonesy Magee!”

Well I was stuck with it after that and I’ve been “Bonesy” at work for going on two years. Weird.

So it turns out I'm a wanted felon... Sort of.

“Mr Jones? Mr Christopher Jones? Sorry sir, can you follow me please?”

Coming from an armed customs agent, that shit is scary. Turns out there’s another ‘Chris Jones’ out there (shocker) with the same birthday as mine. And this Chris Jones has an outstanding federal arrest warrant.

Didn’t catch what the warrant was for, but I was asked to spill about my recent marriage, traffic tickets, who I work for and can I name names. On the whole, wasn’t such a bad experience, but as a first time visitor to a foreign country it’s going to make me think twice about vacation destinations.

About the only explanation I got was, “Ouch, sorry, that’s a very unfortunate name.” You’re not just whistling fucking Dixie pal.

My life in phones (age 27 - 27 and 4 months).

Everyone told me to to get a blackberry. And they were right for about 3 months. Constantly plagued by random reboots, web pages would not render on principle, and twitter?
I picked this phone because the guy at the store said it could take a beating and had something called a ‘full physical keyboard.’

This phone got chucked against pavement in anger (work), got dropped off of a ton of bar tops (fun) and basically did everything I needed. I would still have this phone if I hadn’t eventually wanted stuff like good web browsing on a phone. Man this phone took a lot of abuse, like Nokia levels.

My life in phones (age 24 1/2 - 25).

I’m notoriously rough on phones, so I’m not sure why I thought this phone would do better than the razr. It was cool to flip and text, but its penchant to frequently drop out of belt holsters on to moving conveyors often left me at the bottom of a recycle chute hoping it didn’t get chewed up by a motor.

My life in phones (age 24-24 1/2).

I made the mistake of getting this phone and then a job at UPS. This phone was beat to shit, and replaced TWICE under warranty. It was flashy, ultimately flimsy.

My life in phones (age 21-24)

Camera phones were the rage, and by the stars above I wanted to rage with them. This old broad was the phone I used in my first major days of drinking, texting, and collegiate life. She was the fasted hunk of junk in the galaxy.

My life in phones (age 19-21)

My old Nokia could do everything (except for text). It took headers from tops of cars, had replaceable face plates, and was rolled over and stepped on by the best.

Luckily, it could also
be reassembled by simply snapping some parts together.

In the world of fragile smart phones, I miss this old workhorse.

Digital Dental Floss.

Digital Dental Floss.:
ballsmoke:

A lot of time was spent on discussing Digital, as you might expect, but early on on the first day, DC co-Publisher Jim Lee made a visual analogy that sort of guided my thinking for the rest of the weekend.

Jim held up two hands. In one hand he had a regular 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, and in the other, he had a piece of dental floss. The former, he said, represented the revenues from print comics. The latter? Revenue from digital.

Now, clearly, digital will continue to grow — heck, maybe with a lot of effort and brain cycles, it might even grow to be the size, say, of an index card, but the actual real on-the-ground reality of digital comics sales are that they are a virtually (heh) insignificant way of making money for the publishers.

All the more reason to make everything day/date and shut the hell up about it.

This metaphor doesn’t count if Jim Lee was more than ten minutes late to this panel.

The Lord of the Bored (A One Page Story Written for my Wife)

There are places in this world where the borders between imagination and what we actually perceive is very thin. Some people call it shared experience others call it multiple dimensions, but despite the fact we label it, we are no closer to understanding it.

Why do we all think of the Lord of the Rings the same way? We hear the words ‘Elf’ or ‘Wizard’ and we can all imagine the same things… is it because we are conditioned to know the definition of something or is it because whether we know it or not we are sensitive in some ways to this other place, this shared imaginary plane just around the corner from everything we know.

It’s because of these places, that fantasy lives…

When Kathyrn Anne awoke on the morning on February 8th there were many things racing to her mind as her eyes fluttered open. Errands, wedding details, bits of conversations, and the quickly fading memory of a dream assaulted her senses as she cruised through her morning routine. It was in this time she often let her mind drift, if just for a momentary respite, or a longing to go back to sleep and comfort, or maybe something closer to both.

A stirring in the other room, a sleeping fiancé with a snore that drove her to the edge of insanity and dangled her there, reminded her that real world was out there to be handled and her momentary fantasies would have to wait.

Giving daily instructions to the snorer and a fleeting kiss, she donned her stone gray hooded coat and stepped in to the morning. She closed her eyes tight, waiting for a cold blast of winter air. Seconds passed as she waited to be brutalized, but instead her senses lied to her as she stood there, unable to now open her eyes. It was if the brain could communicate to her, but she could not give it commands.

Warmth on her face, the smell of iron (like someone had just pressed metal), the sound of voices and animals, and the feeling of …. turf in her toenails?

Finally the vice on her mind relaxed, she opened her eyes to be greeted by…. the Shire?!

She recognized it instantly, as many worn out Tolkien DVDs would attest to. Alarms went off in her head and she presented herself with options: Still sleeping, insanity, anything other than what she was seeing.

Without turning she felt a presence next to her, she turned her head to see her stunned fiancé appear. He looked around, calmly, turned his eyes to her and said almost amused, ‘I think I have elf ears.’

-Jonesy, who wrote this story because his wife feels sick and needed some cheering up.

"We’re not going to have a universal day and date release for our comic books.
Nintendo for the fun stuff, new Mario, new Zelda, franchises that are still close to my heart. Sony for the good stuff: RPGs, fps, their exclusives. And life was good.

Then this whole ‘online’ fad started awhile back and I largely panned all this talk about a little known system called the ‘x box.’

Years passed and I finally got a ps3. It was wireless which meant that playing online was a no brainer, in fact it was more of a pain not to set it up. So I did.

And it was good.

Until I started branching out to friends and coworkers.

‘Hey, what’s your psn id?’
‘Isn’t that something on my taxes, I don’t think I should just give that out.’

It was frustrating.

So finally I broke down and got an x box 360, Halo Reach edition. The changes to my life were quick and surprising.

In the first day of ownership I already had more friends than a year’s worth on ps3. And they were online. And they wanted to play! It blew my mind.

Also, I felt like I just had gotten my iPhone. I would tell friends I got a xbox and I would get responses like: ‘Finally, what’s your gamertag, bro?’ or in some cases just a knowing nod and smile of approval.

In the end, I can’t say that I’m a branded guy to either system. I still play my Blu Rays on PS3 or play Assassin’s Creed games, or God of War. When it comes to social gaming, I usually fire up my xbox to see what my friends are up to.

It’s like having two girlfriends, the first just wants to make you a good meal and snuggle with you and watch a movie. The second wants you to do tequila shots off of her while your friends stand around and cheer. Both have their pros.

My wii you ask? I still rock some Dr. Mario when I’m feeling frisky, but in my eyes she’s the girl that it never quite worked out with, but you’re still happy to say you had your time together.

I usually don't blog about music...

Hey, jonesylovesbeer.com isn’t one of those namby pamby blogs that talks about whatever ska/emo joints ‘dropped’ this week.

That being said, sometimes a song just takes over your life for a few days. In my case it’s the original version of ‘Jet Airliner’ by Paul Pena (made famous by the Steve Miller Band).

It’s more bluesy (@slim just stopped reading this post) and has a lot more soul. It’s one of those tunes that makes me want to take a road trip.

If you’ve got five minutes, give it a listen.

Dude van winkles himself to the double aughts only to find that Bucky married his girlfriend, his new mutant girlfriend thinks he’s a tool, and (oh I don’t know) everyone in the world now hates/doesn’t care about the country and ideals he fought for?!

The best part about Ultimate Cap is that they play him as a cranky old man, but one that can get up from his chair and then beat the living S out of some disrespecting wife beating giant man or some long haired hippy thunder god.

Dude’s awesome, and hung out with ‘Lucky Jim’ in dubbya dubbya two.
@fadaobhaile, I’m looking in your direction.

first post

atdaleunderscorea:

Testing this out. I really feel like this could be a good outlet for me, to just post things. Things I like. Things I hate. Things I need you folks to see. A place to call my own. We will see what happens. I could not even finish this thought. You see what I mean? This was made to fail.

This is Dale_a, embrace him as I have. You’re soul will be better for it.
